Small Repair, Big Prevention

A sagging gutter or leaking joint doesn't seem urgent — until a heavy rainstorm dumps water against your foundation, behind your siding, or into your soffit. Gutter problems are progressive. A loose hanger becomes a sagging section, which pools water, which rots the fascia, which drops the gutter, which floods the landscape bed against the foundation. The $200 repair you skipped today becomes the $2,000 repair next winter.

Fast Turnaround

Most gutter repairs completed in 1-3 hours. Schedule today, fixed today. No waiting for "gutter season."

Root Cause Diagnosis

We find why the gutter is failing — not just where. Rotten fascia, incorrect slope, missing hangers, or undersized downspouts.

Proper Materials

Hidden hangers (not spikes), butyl sealant (not silicone caulk), color-matched aluminum sections. Repairs that last, not quick patches.

Fascia Repair Included

When rotten fascia is the root cause, we replace it as part of the gutter repair. No point rehanging gutters on bad wood.

Common Gutter Problems We Fix

Sagging Gutters — Hangers have pulled out, fascia has softened, or the gutter was never properly supported. We remove old spike-and-ferrule hangers, replace rotten fascia sections, and install hidden hangers screwed into solid rafter tails on 24-inch centers. Slope is verified with a level.

Cleaning gutters during repair

Leaking Joints — Sectional gutters leak where pieces connect. Inside corners, outside corners, and end caps are the worst offenders. We clean the joint thoroughly, apply butyl rubber sealant (the only gutter sealant worth using), and rivet where needed. For chronic leakers, we fabricate a seamless replacement section.

Overflowing Gutters — If gutters are clean but still overflow in heavy rain, the system is undersized, missing downspouts, or improperly sloped. We evaluate drainage capacity per run and add downspouts or upsize the gutter where needed. Sometimes relocating a single downspout solves a persistent overflow.

Detached Downspouts — Downspouts pull away from the wall when brackets fail or the elbow at the gutter outlet breaks. We re-secure with new wall brackets (stainless steel screws into solid backing), replace damaged elbows, and verify the connection at the gutter outlet is sealed.

Ice Damming at Gutters — Less common in the East Bay's mild climate, but hillside homes at elevation can experience ice formation that backs water under shingles. We install heat cables in the gutter channel and along the eave line for problem areas, and verify that soffit ventilation is adequate to keep the roof deck cold.

Fascia Rot Behind Gutters — The most damaging gutter failure. Water overflows the back edge of the gutter (from clogs or incorrect installation) and saturates the fascia board for years. By the time the gutter visibly sags, the fascia and sometimes the rafter tails behind it are compromised. We remove the gutter, replace all rotted wood, prime and paint the new fascia, and rehang the gutter.

Why Most Gutter Repairs Fail

The hardware store approach — squeeze some silicone on the leak, drive a new spike, bend the gutter back into shape — fails because it treats symptoms. Silicone caulk doesn't bond to wet aluminum and cracks within a year. Spikes pull out of the same soft hole. Bent gutters lose their profile and trap water at the deformation.

Our repairs address the underlying cause: new fascia where wood is soft, hidden hangers that distribute load across the rafter tail, butyl sealant that flexes with thermal movement and bonds to aluminum, and gutter sections re-formed or replaced to maintain proper profile and slope.

The result is a repair that lasts the remaining life of the gutter system — not just until the next heavy rain.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I know my gutters need repair vs. replacement?

Repair if: the damage is localized (one sagging section, a few leaking joints, a detached downspout) and the rest of the system is sound. Replace if: gutters are sagging throughout, you see rust holes or cracking in multiple areas, the fascia behind them is extensively rotted, or they're more than 25 years old and showing their age everywhere.

Why are my gutters overflowing during heavy rain?

Four common causes: clogged gutters/downspouts (most common), undersized gutters for your roof area, insufficient downspouts, or incorrect slope. We diagnose the actual cause — sometimes it's a simple cleaning, sometimes it's a design issue that requires adding a downspout or upsizing a section.

The gutter is pulling away from the house. Why?

Almost always rotten fascia. The screws or nails that hold the gutter hangers are pulling through soft, water-damaged wood. The gutter itself may be fine — the fascia behind it has failed. We replace the rotted fascia board, install new hidden hangers into solid wood, and re-secure the gutter. Fixing the gutter without fixing the fascia is a temporary solution that fails again within months.

Can you match my existing gutters for a partial repair?

If your gutters are standard 5-inch or 6-inch K-style aluminum in a common color, yes — we carry the most popular colors on our trucks. For less common profiles (half-round, box) or discontinued colors, we can fabricate matching sections. The new section won't have the same weathering as existing gutters, but the color match is typically close enough.

When Repair Is Throwing Money Away

If your gutters are sectional (10-foot pieces joined together), over 20 years old, and leaking at multiple joints, repairing them joint by joint will cost more than replacing the entire system with seamless gutters within 2-3 years. We'll tell you when replacement makes more financial sense than repair. Same goes for aluminum gutters that are dented, bent, or have been repainted multiple times — new seamless gutters are the better investment.
