Installing a roof on new construction or an addition is the one time you get to do everything right — no compromises from existing conditions. We start from the roof deck and build up with proper ice and water shield, synthetic underlayment, drip edge, and ventilation before a single shingle goes on.

How We Build Your Roof

Roof Deck Preparation — Every installation starts with inspecting the decking substrate. We verify structural integrity, replace any damaged sheathing, and ensure proper nailing patterns. The deck is the foundation — skip this step and everything above it fails.

Underlayment System — We install synthetic underlayment across the entire roof deck, with ice and water shield membrane in valleys, at eaves, around penetrations, and along wall junctions. This secondary water barrier is your insurance against wind-driven rain.

Flashing & Drip Edge — Aluminum drip edge at eaves and rakes, step flashing at walls, counter-flashing at chimneys, and custom-fabricated pieces for complex intersections. Flashing is where most roofs fail — we don't cut corners here.

Ventilation — Ridge vents paired with soffit intake vents, sized to provide 1 sq ft of net free area per 150 sq ft of attic space. Proper ventilation extends shingle life by 20-30% and prevents moisture damage to insulation and framing.

Material Installation — Whether architectural shingles, standing seam metal, clay tile, or composite slate, every material has specific manufacturer requirements for fastener type, spacing, and overlap. We follow them exactly — that's what makes the warranty valid.

Materials We Install

Asphalt Shingles — The most popular choice in the East Bay. Architectural (laminate) shingles offer better wind resistance and aesthetics than 3-tab. GAF Timberline HDZ rated for 130 mph winds. 25-50 year warranties available.

Metal Roofing — Standing seam or corrugated panels. Energy-efficient, fire-resistant (Class A), and rated for 40-70 years. Higher upfront cost, lowest lifetime cost. Ideal for the East Bay's fire-prone hillside neighborhoods.

Tile Roofing — Clay and concrete tile is common in older East Bay homes. Heavy — requires engineered trusses. But lasts 50-100 years with proper installation. We verify structural capacity before quoting tile.

Composite & Synthetic — Modern composites mimic slate or wood shake at half the weight and a third of the cost. Impact-resistant, Class A fire rated, and 50-year warranties. Growing fast in the East Bay market.

East Bay Installation Considerations

The East Bay's diverse microclimates affect material selection. Hillside homes in the Oakland and Berkeley hills face higher fire risk and wind exposure — Class A fire-resistant materials with enhanced wind ratings are essential. Homes in Walnut Creek and Concord deal with extreme summer heat — cool roof coatings and reflective materials reduce energy costs. Coastal-adjacent areas like Fremont and Hayward need corrosion-resistant flashing and fasteners.
