The City of Berkeley Building & Safety Division at 1947 Center Street handles re-roof permits. Most straightforward residential applications are approved within a few business days.

Elmwood Craftsman full re-roof. 1919 brown shingle on a narrow lot near College Avenue. Tear-off down to original redwood decking, synthetic underlayment, Class A GAF Timberline HDZ in a dark weathered wood tone. Three-day job; four-week scheduling wait to catch a dry stretch.

The owners had been waiting 15 years to do this roof right. Original redwood decking looked like it could go another 50.

Berkeley Hills Chapter 7A re-roof. 1978 contemporary on Panoramic Way with a metal roof installed in the early 2000s that developed systemic sealant failure at every penetration. Tore off the metal, reframed two areas of water-damaged decking, installed Class A composition assembly with ember-resistant ridge and eave vents.

Claremont Tudor tile re-roof. 1928 Tudor with original clay barrel tile. Lifted and stacked the tile, new high-temp underlayment, new copper valley metal, reset the original tile. Sourced replacement tile from a reclaimed supplier to match the existing patina.

West Berkeley commercial TPO. 6,000 sq ft flat-roof industrial building near Gilman. Old modified bitumen cooked through, two drains blocked, three active leaks. Installed 60-mil TPO fully adhered with tapered insulation and crickets detail to break ponding.
